2021 C8 PRODUCTION CUT SHORT

A parts shortage, unrelated to the ongoing semiconductor chips issue, has caused another production delay this month. Because of this, GM has been forced to cut the production numbers of MY21 cars short, in order to maintain the Start-of-Production (SOP) date for the MY22 Corvette.

GM cut off new car orders for the 2021 Corvette in March. This was due to the overwhelming demand for the car, and the knowledge that there was a limited number that could be built prior to the planned SOP date for the MY22.

The parts shortage has made this situation even worse, meaning less MY21 cars will be able to be assembled. Consequently, some of the people who ordered 2021 cars will not receive their orders, although GM has declared those with “accepted orders” will still receive their MY21 cars.

"In order to maintain start of production for the 2022 model year Corvette Stingray in late Q3, and as a result of continued unplanned part shortages not related to the industry-wide semiconductor availability issues, General Motors has had to make an adjustment in the number of Corvette Stingrays available for the 2021 model year"
